Position Summary:

uniQure is a fast paced environment that is constantly evolving. We are implementing new systems, accelerating the growth of the organization and constantly looking for ways to improve our back-office operations. This role will be responsible for operational accounting, including payroll processing, retirement/benefit plan financial administration, month-end close activities – including journal entry preparation and accounting schedules, and corporate credit card administration. This position will perform account reconciliations and analysis to support both fiscal and management reporting requirements. Lead the compliance filling for ERISA and nondiscrimination testing for DB/DC plans. Initiate and support accounting business process improvements. The Staff Accountant will be a key member of the system implementation team with added focus on automation of payroll and benefit plan processes. Assist external auditors with SOX and other audit requests. As a member of the finance cast, provide work coverage and support to both Accounts Payable and other Accountants as necessary. Perform additional accounting and reporting tasks as required to support the department.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manage payroll processing for the site. Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing – including administration, compliance and processing of employee stock vesting and payouts. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws regarding payroll administration, tax payments, etc.
  • Partner with key stakeholder groups such as HR, employees, and 3rd party administrators to ensure alignment and compliance. Manage, troubleshoot and resolve payroll and time labor attendance related questions and/or issues as the first escalation point.
  • Review and assess payroll practices and procedures for operational effectiveness and quality to continuously improve the payroll process
  • Review and verify all aspects of any personal and employment changes are applied correctly, including but not limited to tax withholding rates, jurisdictions, and any Time & Labor assignment.
  • Review calculations and processing of federal and state taxes and social security withholdings and other deductions, insurance, benefits, pension/retirement, 401(k) contributions and company match.
  • Ensure General Ledger account reconciliation items, payroll tax and W-2 reporting and accurately reported and accounted
  • Assist with year-end processing, including W-2s, year-end adjustments, and 1099’s
  • Drive the process for reporting and filing IRS 1099’s
  • Process COBRA for retirees and as needed for other terminating employees
  • Assist employees with 401k and Retirement Income Savings Plan questions – eligibility, enrollment, loans, distributions, and roll-overs.
  • Review annual nondiscrimination testing of the plan and true-ups for DB/DC plans
  • Perform annual filling for ERISA
  • Reconcile cash accounts related to managed 3rd party applications (i.e ADP, Empower, BRI, et al). Prepare supporting documentation.
  • Manage employee credit card applications, charges, and statement reconciliations
  • Provide back-up support for fixed assets accounting and capital reporting.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Provide backup support for the accounting and processing of employee expense reports
  • Perform the processing of monthly SG&A and R&D company allocation reclassification. (for intercompany reporting)
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, fiscal account reconciliation reporting to Corporate Finance, US tax reporting.
  • Support the development and implementation of new ERP system and applications.
  • Support the external auditors in periodic testing and account analysis requests.
  • Maintain SOX and other internal controls documentation. Enhance documentation and understanding of accounting processes.
  • Perform other accounting, financial and administrative tasks as may be required to back-up and support the accounting team.
  • Support accounts payable process as advisor and back-up

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years in a staff accounting role
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll applications.
  • Skilled in report writing and data analysis using advanced Excel
  • Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
  • CPP certification a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting in a commercial business – start-up accounting exposure a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems and applications

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance,
  • MBA/CPA a plus
