Position Summary:

uniQure is a fast paced environment that is constantly evolving. We are implementing new systems, accelerating the growth of the organization and constantly looking for ways to improve our back-office operations. This role will participate significantly in the month end close process and work with external auditors on SOX and other audit requests. The Senior Staff Accountant will have responsibility for managing the accounting operations, including cash disbursements, credit card administration, fiscal reporting, accounting and account analyses, intercompany accounting, and internal controls. This position will drive the month-end accounting close process including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements. The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for fixed asset accounting and the capital spending process. Provide ongoing support and counsel to the accounting team as well as the broader role of business partner. Primary contact for all intercompany accounting and support to Corporate Finance team. Support and initiate the development of process improvements including the implementation of ERP applications and modules. Perform additional accounting and reporting tasks as required to support the department.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile cash accounts and related activity to G/L Prepare supporting analysis and documentation to support compliance.
  • Manage employee credit card applications, charges, and statement reconciliations
  • Manage cash disbursements process
  • Responsible for filing IRS 1099’s
  • Monthly balancing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Manage fixed assets accounting. Reconcile invoices, prepare information for input to fixed asset system. Prepare CIP report and issue to management. Implement and monitor controls including physical asset count.
  • Mange the capital spending and proposal process. Including the evaluation of capital proposals and reporting of capital spending against budget.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes
  • Support the preparation and filing of Federal form 5500 (401k compliance)
  • Support the accounting and processing of employee expense reports
  • Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed asset depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries.
  • Support the analysis and preparation of monthly budget variances and annual budgeting activities
  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, fiscal account reconciliation reporting to Corporate Finance, US tax reporting.
  • Support the development and implementation of new ERP system and applications.
  • Support the external auditors in periodic testing and account analysis requests.
  • Maintain SOX and other internal controls documentation. Enhance documentation and understanding of accounting processes.
  • Receives and verifies invoices, and ensuring that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures, account codes, in addition to having required approval.
  • Perform other accounting, financial and administrative tasks as may be required to back-up and support the accounting team.
  • Support accounts payable process as advisor and back-up

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years in a staff accounting role
  • Hands-on experience with bigger picture perspective
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting in a commercial business – start-up and corporate accounting exposure a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems and applications
  • CPA preferred but not required

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance,
  • MBA/CPA a plus
