Job Summary:

At uniQure our focus is delivering on the promise of gene therapy, single treatments with potentially curative results. We are advancing a pipeline of innovative gene therapy programs and have established clinical proof-of-concept in our lead indication, hemophilia B, and preclinical proof-of-concept in Huntington’s disease. Our growing pipeline of adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapies has been developed using an innovative technology platform, supported by industry-leading proprietary commercial-grade manufacturing capabilities. Through recent collaborations and strategic partnership with Bristol-Myers Squibb to develop gene therapies for cardiovascular diseases, we have also taken the next steps toward developing gene therapies targeting chronic and degenerative diseases that affect larger populations.

In light of this expanding portfolio, uniQure is looking for a seasoned (Director/Senior Director level) Program Manager to act as the operational leader of one or more Global (Development) Programs charged with articulating program strategy and driving execution. Program assignments could include both late-stage development (post PoC) programs with complex international development, regulatory and commercialization scenarios or early stage programs (pre-PoC) with significant uncertainty and translation challenges. High level duties include:

  • Leadership of program strategy development and translation of program strategy into a cross-functional integrated development plan.
  • Accountability for the execution of the integrated development plan in line with corporate, portfolio and program strategy while optimizing cost, scope schedule balance
  • Proactive management of risk to ensure early risk identification, quantification (probability and impact) and timely mitigation plans.
  • Aggressive networking with all relevant R&D, Mfg, Medical Affairs, and Commercial functions and alliance partners (where applicable) to ensure a robust and realistic program plan.
  • Utilization of Project Management best practices and experience in the Drug Development space to act as the cross-functional voice of the program team to Senior Management
  • Willingness to undertake challenges to achieve the optimum clinical outcomes and fastest possible route to sustainable access for patients

Key individual Attributes (Leadership; Influence; Communications):
  • Leads Program team to fulfill relevant program performance objectives for Patients, HCPs, Agencies and the corporation
  • Communicates program vision as needed and establishes trust within the senior management, the program team and functional departments.
  • Ensures execution of functional plans. Monitors functional sub-teams to drive execution of plans against strategy. Supports functional sub-teams as appropriate case-by-case basis
  • Identifies resource needs with program team members, requests resources as required and ensures that resources are assigned and aligned to deliver on program plans.
  • Manages stakeholders by ensuring timely communication to departmental management on issues related to their deliverables and/or responsibilities.
  • Actively contributes to the creation of presentations to senior management committees
  • Leads all relevant program documentation development such as Integrated Development Plans (IDPs), budget proposals, dashboards in partnership with critical functions.
  • Rapidly escalate major issues to the Portfolio Operations Management Team in order to optimize the quality and variety of the teams proposed solutions/mitigation plans
  • Management and coaching of Program Coordinators assigned to the program.
Skills, competencies required:
  • Proven leadership, capacity to coordinate several activities and stakeholders including external partners, if relevant.
  • Expertise in managing large and complex treatment development programs and in managing global, multicultural development teams.
  • Knowledge of drug development and regulatory processes from discovery to global product launch including Medical Affairs and ability to drive regulatory and labeling strategies, previous contribution to submissions and knowledge of external landscape and competitor field.
  • Critical/Creative thinking – ability to challenge the status quo.
  • Anticipate risks with ability to prospectively propose creative solutions
  • Ability to propose strategies for asset optimization (Life Cycle Management).
  • Influencing skills to motivate team members for best performance and outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral. Fluent in English
Education and background:
  • Degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. BS, MS, PhD, MD, DVM) or related degree with substantial program management or program leadership experience.
  • Business qualifications such as MBA or professional project management qualification such as PMP® would be of additional benefit.
  • 10+ years of experience in expanding roles in development or related field including experience and understanding of the current pharmaceutical environment including sound understanding of the therapeutic area.
  • 5+ years professional experience on managing complex programs, including experience on a late stage development product; skills for bridging between different fields of expertise and demonstrated experience in leading multidisciplinary global teams.
  • Strong expertise in drug development and risk management (incl scenario and contingency plans).
  • In-depth knowledge of project planning tools, budget structure and management science.
  • Transversal communication and networking demonstrated. Managerial and interpersonal skills applied to matrix organization, effective international collaboration, and external alliance partnering skills, if relevant.
