Purpose of the role

The Director/Senior Director will work with Business Development to build strong relationships within the research and biotech community and develop good ideas for uniQure’s next wave of innovative AAV gene therapy products. This will involve approaching the various sources of innovation such as university researchers, venture capital, and early stage biotech companies, as well as helping to lead the identification, evaluation and diligence for new assets and technologies. In this role, s/he will work closely with other colleagues at uniQure to build consensus for the ideas.

Key result areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities):

  • Develop and execute an outreach strategy to find innovative opportunities for uniQure in the AAV gene therapy field
  • Visiting research institutions and researchers to establish good relationships and coverage of cutting edge activities
  • Developing good ideas for uniQure to pursue that are well thought-out and supported, and presenting the ideas for buy-in within the company
  • Working with cross-functional teams through the evaluation of opportunities
  • Integrating and summarizing scientific, clinical and market information and helping to develop the business case and overall assessment of the opportunity
  • Participating in diligence activities and contract negotiations as appropriate
  • Ensuring that all relevant supporting documentation for presentation to senior management and the board, and for transactions is of the highest quality and is reviewed and approved by stakeholders within the company

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 7-10 plus years biotechnology-pharmaceutical industry that demonstrates a strong track record of identifying and evaluating third party assets and technologies
  • PhD and/or MD preferred
  • Knowledge of AAV gene therapy technology and industry
  • Knowledge or familiarity with various CNS, liver, metabolic, and muscle diseases that could be amenable to gene therapy
  • Knowledge of the drug research and development process and the regulatory, reimbursement and commercial environments

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and manage initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to enable interactions with potential partners and to drive the evaluation process and make recommendations
