A key member of the Global Medical Affairs team, the Associate Director, Medical Communications will lead the planning and development of a broad range of scientific and medical content including abstracts, manuscripts, and congress presentations across uniQure’s clinical development, research, and technology portfolio. This individual will be responsible for creation and execution of a company-wide disclosure strategy, as well as development of therapeutic area-specific scientific communication platforms and maintenance of internal knowledge databases.

Key result areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities):

  • Lead development of the strategic scientific communications and external medical education plan for uniQure’s development programs and research areas; liaise with cross-functional stakeholders including clinical development, clinical operations, research, vector development, and manufacturing to gather data and plan publication development
  • Lead cross-functional development of scientific communication platforms for clinical stage programs
  • Develop high-visibility scientific abstracts, posters, presentations and manuscripts to disseminate new scientific and clinical data and real-world evidence and increase awareness of uniQure technology and clinical programs
  • Lead collaboration with authors on the drafting, review and editing of publications; ensure organizational awareness of activities
  • Support content development symposia in collaboration with Medical Education & Training, and non-CME educational efforts
  • Plan and assist in execution of key tactics for medical congresses, including medical affairs booth educational content development, symposia planning, and vendor management
  • Manage external communications vendor and budgets to target
  • Monitor the external medical and scientific landscape through targeted literature searches and analyses to educate internal stakeholders and inform content development
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external standards and model good publication practice including following ICMJE and GPP3 guidance

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Advanced degree preferred (PhD or PharmD, Masters in a scientific discipline acceptable with experience)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Pharma/Biotech industry or agency in a Medical Affairs or Medical Writing role
  • Background in Hemophilia or Huntington’s Disease is a plus, but not required
  • Excellent presentation, written, communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong time and project management skills with attention to detail and the ability to effectively plan and prioritize work and balance multiple projects
  • Functions well in a dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and logical thinking with ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions and implement recommendations for resolution
  • Ability to understand, synthesize, and communicate complex scientific concepts
  • Must be fully cognizant and adhere to all regulatory, legal, and compliance standards for Medical Affairs activities, including ICMJE and GPP3 guidelines
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, both US and international
